The Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital was established in the year of 1923 by Joseph Fraser Memorial Trust which as a non-profit hospital in honor of Joseph Fraser who was an extremely successful and respected planter in the country from 1872 to 1913. His wife, Chrissie Fraser, enlisted the assistance of the planters association of Ceylon to construct a applicable memorial to commemorate the life of her late husband for which she would offering the funding.
