Colombo Dockyard established its operations in 1974 and is now Sri Lanka’s biggest engineering facility in the business of ship repair, shipbuilding, heavy engineering and offshore engineering. It is situated within the Port of Colombo. Besides being situated in a comfortable geographical location, it also has the advantages of a deep water harbor which offers and make sure quicker turn around times at cost-effective rates for larger ships.
Colombo Dockyard operates 4 graving dry-docks, the biggest with a capacity of 125,000 metric tons deadweight (DWT) as well as extensive repair berth facilities. Colombo Dockyard is capable of working in compliance with all Classification Society Standards & in strict adherence to international Safety & Quality Standards. It is also accredited with the ISO 9001-2008 Quality Certification by LRQA, UK.
Colombo Dockyard is also expanding its infrastructure facilities, enabling it to constructing even larger vessels necessary in the offshore industry,such as Multipurpose Supply Vessels and Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels, as such keeping up with present trends in modern international shipbuilding. Colombo Dockyard operates in combined collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd., Japan since the year 1993.
