Department of Civil Engineering acts as the strongest, this is most well-established Institute over the Sri Lankan University system. Now at present, 8 Senior Professors, 8 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 19 Senior Lecturers are presently available as academic staff and these people are the reason behind to develop the institute as an academically strong department even by international standards. Currently, the institute accommodates 500 undergraduates (125 in each batch) and over 150 full-time and part-time postgraduate students for the department. Whereas, the flagship programme is the Bachelor of Science of Engineering Honours Degree (B.Sc. Eng. (Hons.)) programme, the division also providing postgraduate Degree Programmes (both taught courses and research degrees) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes and is also actively engaged in research and development activities.
