The Ocean University was established by the Parliament Act No 31 in 2014. The objective of the University is to conduct academic and professional education and vocational training activities in fisheries, marine and nautical engineering to fulfill and develop the needs of the fisheries and allied sector.

Ocean University has been recognized as a degree awarding university by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka and it has been given the authority to offer four-degree programmes in the fields of Marine Science and Nautical Engineering. Further, the university offers a range of diplomas and certificate level courses and mobile programmes with a view to transfer technology in order to enhance the sector performance.



In order to accomplish the key object, there are major divisions, Training and Higher Education. The Division of Higher Education has established the degree courses in B.Sc. in Fisheries & Marine Science, B.Sc. in Marine Engineering, B.Sc. in Transportation Management & Logistics, B.Sc. in Coastal & Marine Resources Management and the Diploma Courses in Underwater Cutting and Welding, Aquaculture and Management Course and Marine Engineering under the subject of Tertiary Education and the certificate courses in Divine, Welding and Floating Vessels mechanic. Similarly, obtain the CDC certification for the said courses and the approval of the University Grant Commission for the degrees is a special achievement.

How much time do I have to finish an individual course?

Each course has its own suggested time frame, which starts once you enroll. Time frames are listed on the individual course page. You must complete all coursework, pass all quizzes and complete the final exam(s) within the course/program time frame.

Can I take part in the entrance examination if I have not yet submitted my English test results?

Yes, the deadline on which we should have received your English test results is 1 January 2018. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, we will need both sufficient results for English test and entrance examination before 1 January 2018

When will I be informed about the entrance examination and the material to be studied?

Soon after you have received your conditional admission letter, you will receive a separate e-mail with more information.

Do I need to arrange accommodation myself if I am selected?

No. IIHE Delft, has student accommodation available and will provide further details in case you are selected.

The Western Campus of the University of Colombo was established by a notification of the Sri Lanka Government Gazette (Extraordinary ) No 928/1 dated 20th June 1996. Its name was subsequently amended as Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. With effect from 11.09.1998 by an order made by the Hon. Minister of Education and Higher Education under 27(1) of the Universities Act No-16 of 1978.


Sri-Palee-Campus-Staff

It is located in the Kalutara district at Wewala, Horana on the lands and buildings donated to the University of Sri Lanka in 1976 by the board of the Sri Palee Trust set up by the late Mr. Wilmot A. Perera, a veteran politician and well-known philanthropist. It has 2 Faculties i.e the Faculty of Performing Arts and the Faculty of Mass Media. Under the Faculty of Performing Arts, there is only one department of study which is the Department of Performing Arts in which Music, Dancing, Drama and Theatre, Screen Studies and Art and Design are taught as main subjects. Under the faculty of Mass Media, three departments were originally gazetted i.e. the Department of Mass Media, the Department of Languages and the Department of Information Technology.



However, at present only the department of Mass Media is fully functional and the other two are functioning as the Language Unit and the Information Technology Unit. The students of Sri Palee Campus are admitted going by their z-score obtained at the Advanced Level examination. Nearly 150 students are admitted to both departments annually.

The Campus Board of Sri Palee Campus is responsible for

  1. The internal administration of the Campus
  2. Making arrangements for the general well-being of, and the provision of amenities for persons attached to the Campus
  3. The performance of any other duties as may be prescribed by Statute.

The Campus Board can, with the approval of the Council of the University of Colombo, make rules in respect of all matters relating or incidental to or connected with the internal administration of the Campus.
